JORGE LOZANO-JUSTE

Drug Crops Principal Investigator

Jorge is a Juan de la Cierva Postdoctoral Researcher since May 2016 and Marie Curie Fellow starting May 2017. He conceived DrugCrops and is the PI of the project. Jorge was awarded with a H2020-Reintegration Grant to carry out the project back in Europe. Jorge did his PhD at Jose Leon's lab (IBMCP, Spain) working on nitric oxide and its connection with ABA in the regulation of plant adaptation to stress. In 2011 he joined Sean Cutler's lab (UCR, California) to learn chemical genetics. Worried to discover small molecules with an impact on crops he started to work with monocots like switchgrass, maize and setaria. He also developed genome editing tools to generate an array of mutants using the CRISPR/Cas9 technology. He came back to Spain on May 2016 to get started with DrugCrops in the lab of Pedro L. Rodriguez (IBMCP, Spain).
